This raw material has been used in Greece since ancient times in herbal medicine, cosmetics, and cooking. The main ingredients of mastic are: essential oil, mastic and masticolic acids, and mastic resin. It has a soothing effect on digestive tract ailments such as stomach upset, inflammation, and heartburn.
