Product Description

CALPROTECTIN'ALERT - a test for detecting calprotectin in stool (inflammatory bowel diseases)

CALPROTECTIN'ALERT® is a quick and convenient immunoassay for detecting calprotectin in stool when its concentration exceeds 50 μg of calprotectin per gram of stool. The calprotectin test is the first-line test for:
• inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD)
• Crohn's disease (CD)
• ulcerative colitis (UC)
• colon cancer

How does the calprotectin test work?

Calprotectin is the main protein contained in neutrophils - cells that appear at the site of inflammation. The incidence of inflammatory bowel disease is increasing. Elevated fecal calprotectin levels indicate the migration of neutrophils into the intestinal lumen. Calprotectin, which has bacteriostatic and mycostatic effects, is released and secreted in the feces. Because the protein is resistant to degradation, it has become a marker for detecting inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis (which may require surgery in the future) and distinguishing them from irritable bowel syndrome (which does not require invasive endoscopic examination).

How to perform the test?

  • Stool samples must be collected using the dedicated paper pad included in the kit.
  • Unscrew the white cap of the solution bottle, which has a sampling tip attached.
  • Collect the sample by dipping the tip into three different sites in the stool. Transfer the collected stool sample to the bottle with the solution and cap tightly.
  • Shake the bottle for 10 seconds to dissolve the stool sample in the solution.
  • Tear open the aluminum foil bag along the edge and remove the test device.
  • Discard the desiccant sachet.
  • Break the purple dispensing tip of the bottle.
  • Hold the bottle vertically, squeeze it and add 5 drops of the diluted stool sample to the sample well - avoiding air bubbles.
  • Read the test result 10 minutes after adding the stool sample to the sample well.
  • Do not interpret the test result after 15 minutes.

Warnings and precautions:

  • This is a medical device. Use according to the instructions for use or label.
  • The test is for single use only. Do not reuse the test.
  • Store the test at a temperature between 4°C and 30°C.
  • Positive result: two colored lines appear in the test region (T) and the control region (C). The color intensity of the lines may vary. A positive result means that calprotectin was detected in the stool sample at a concentration higher than 50 μg/g of stool. Consult your doctor.
