What is dental erosion and what causes it?
Dental erosion is the loss of enamel due to direct contact of teeth with acids contained in certain drinks and foods, as well as stomach acids. These acids attack the enamel and gradually dissolve it. Brushing teeth immediately after consuming acidic foods can cause increased loss of softened enamel. Dental erosion is an increasingly common problem – it affects approximately 1/3 of the population. Teeth affected by erosion become transparent, less white, and more sensitive.
