- Bilberry has a beneficial effect on improving microcirculation in the eyeball and the elasticity of blood vessels. This supports visual acuity and the proper functioning of the retina. The effect of the components contained in bilberries on vision was discovered during World War II. RAF pilots who consumed significant amounts of bilberry preserves reported improved visual acuity, especially during night flights.
- Lutein and zeaxanthin are carotenoids, which, like vitamins, are not produced in the human body and must be supplied through diet. They are found mainly in the macula lutea, the most sensitive area of the retina. The macula lutea is a cluster of retinal cells responsible for visual acuity. This area of the eye is particularly susceptible to harmful factors such as ultraviolet (UV) radiation and free radicals, which is especially important for people over 40. Lutein and zeaxanthin also accumulate in the lens of the eye, acting as a UV filter.
- Vitamin A plays an important role in proper vision, especially after dark and in low light. Vitamin A also affects the proper functioning of epithelia, including the ocular mucosa.
- Zinc, vitamins C, and E are powerful antioxidants; they protect eye cells from oxidative stress (free radicals). Zinc also plays an important role in vision: it is a component of enzymes that enable the conversion of vitamin A into the light-sensitive pigment rhodopsin.
Dosage:
1 capsule daily with a meal; drink plenty of water. Long-term use is recommended for optimal results. After a year of use, take a one-month break.
