TSH HORMONE TEST

TSH HORMONE TEST is a home, cassette test for determining the concentration of the TSH hormone in the blood to diagnose thyroid diseases in a blood sample taken from the fingertip. Test results are available within 10 minutes.

The test sensitivity is 5uIU/ml. The clinical use of TSH measurement is useful in diagnosing hypothyroidism, the characteristic symptoms of which include excessive nervousness, irritability, feeling hot, sleep problems, diarrhea, and high blood pressure.

WHAT IS TSH?

TSH is a thyroid-stimulating hormone produced by the pituitary gland, stimulating the thyroid gland to produce and secrete thyroid hormones (thyroxine – T4 and triiodothyronine – T3). The pituitary gland increases TSH secretion in response to lower thyroid hormone levels. Reduced TSH secretion occurs with an excess of thyroid hormones. TSH secretion is regulated by negative feedback with thyroid hormones. When free thyroxine (fT4) and triiodothyronine (fT3) are low, TSH levels are high. Conversely, high fT4 and high fT3 cause low TSH levels. A blood TSH level test is a basic test that can be used to check whether the thyroid is functioning properly. Therefore, TSH levels should be measured in cases of hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism, and as a checkup for thyroid hormone replacement therapy, especially in cases of hypothyroidism. A reduced TSH level is associated with hyperthyroidism, the characteristic symptoms of which include excessive nervousness, irritability, feeling hot, sleep problems, diarrhea, and increased blood pressure. An elevated TSH level indicates hypothyroidism, the characteristic symptoms of which include fatigue, drowsiness, weakness, excess weight, constipation, increased hair loss, and depressed mood.

The capillary pipette included in the test kit makes it easier to collect an appropriate blood sample. It is recommended to consult your doctor about the results.

WHAT DOES A DIFFERENCE IN THE COLOR OR INTENSITY OF THE LINES IN THE READING WINDOW MEAN?

The color and intensity of the lines in the test field T are not relevant to the interpretation of the result. The lines should be uniform and clearly visible. The test should be considered positive regardless of the color intensity of the test line.

IS THE RESULT READ AFTER 20 MINUTES RELIABLE?

A result read after 20 minutes is not reliable. The result should be read 10 minutes after adding the reagent.

HOW TO PROCEED IN CASE OF A POSITIVE RESULT?

If the test result is positive, it means that the TSH hormone level in the blood is higher than 5 μIU/ml. It is recommended to consult a doctor to take appropriate therapy.

HOW TO PROCEED IN CASE OF A NEGATIVE RESULT?

If the test result is negative, it means that the TSH hormone level in the blood is lower than 5 μIU/ml. In case of a negative result and concomitant symptoms such as palpitations, feeling hot, excessive nervousness, weight loss and increased blood pressure, it is recommended to consult your doctor.
