Glucose 75g
Glucose 75g is a powder for preparing an oral solution intended for performing an oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT - Oral Glucose Tolerance Test; formerly: sugar curve).
The test is performed in people suspected of having type 2 diabetes. The test should be performed on an empty stomach (at least 8 hours after the last meal). The test begins with a venous blood sample to determine the fasting glucose level, then the patient drinks 75g of glucose dissolved in 200-300ml of water within 3-5 minutes, and after 60 (three-point test) and 120 minutes (two-point test), a venous blood sample is collected again to determine the blood glucose level. The two-hour period between drinking the glucose solution and blood sampling should be spent at rest.
The product is also intended for use in states of carbohydrate deficiency, exhaustion, and hypoglycemia in patients with diagnosed diabetes. If symptoms of hypoglycemia occur, take 10-20g of glucose. This will increase blood glucose levels after approximately 10-20 minutes. To avoid a recurrence of hypoglycemia, consume complex carbohydrates and repeat the blood glucose test after 60 minutes. In patients treated with intensive insulin therapy, using insulin analogues, or during treatment with a personal insulin pump, in the event of hypoglycemia, take 15g of glucose orally and check blood glucose levels after 15 minutes. If blood glucose levels remain low, repeat the glucose test and check blood glucose levels after another 15 minutes (15/15 rule). Note: ¼ sachet is approximately 17 g of glucose.
