Citicoline as a substance is a precursor of phosphatidylcholine, naturally occurring in the body, which is a key building block of phospholipids of cell membranes.
After hydrolysis, citicoline is transformed into cytidine and choline, which easily penetrate the blood-brain barrier, playing a key role in the synthesis and reconstruction of nerve cell membranes. Due to the increased synthesis of acetylcholine and the influence on the synthesis of phospholipids, citicoline has a positive effect on the proper functioning of the brain.
