How to check for amniotic fluid leakage? Amniocheck Amniotic Fluid Leakage Self-Test
Amniocheck Amniotic Fluid Leakage Self-Test is a medical device that allows you to detect possible amniotic fluid (amniotic fluid) leakage at home. Amniocheck contains 5 tests in the form of inserts. The test is characterized by high sensitivity and specificity, confirmed by clinical studies.
How does the Amniocheck test for amniotic fluid leakage work?
- The Amniocheck test is a test in the form of a pad that changes color upon contact with a fluid with a pH greater than or equal to pH 6.5 (amniotic fluid pH).
- The pad changes color from yellow to green or blue (of varying intensity).
- A change in the color of the Amniocheck indicator may indicate both amniotic fluid leakage and infection.
- Amniocheck pads detect amniotic fluid leakage from 100 microliters of fluid.
- The Amniocheck test is characterized by high sensitivity and specificity (97%).
- A change in the color of the pad requires immediate contact with a doctor.
Why is it worth checking for amniotic fluid leakage? Fetal?
Amniotic fluid leakage can have serious consequences for both the mother and the fetus. Early detection of amniotic fluid leakage can:
- prevent premature labor or complications,
- help confirm the breaking of amniotic fluid, allowing the patient to reach the hospital for a safe delivery,
- help identify a possible rupture of membranes, for example, after amniocentesis.
How to use:
- After removing the device from the package, the device has a light yellow indicator. It should be placed in the patient's underwear (it can be worn like a regular device for up to 12 hours) directly next to the patient's vagina.
- If the patient feels fluid leaking, remove the device and wait 15 minutes. After this time, check whether the color of the device has changed.
